Abstract
THE EFFECT OF GIVING TOMATOES JUICE (Solanum Lycopersicum L) TO DIABETES MELITUS MICE ON REDUCING BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVEL ABSTRACT Background: Tomatoes have a major active substance called lycopene. Lycopene can reduce blood glucose by reducing insulin hormone resistance. Objective: To determine the effect of giving tomato juice (Solanum lycopersicum L) to mice with diabetic mellitus on the reduction of glucose ad random. Methods: Laboratory experiment using Pre-Post Control Group Design with mice as test animals (Mus musculus). The statistic test was conducted with Independent and Paired T-test. Results: The average blood glucose level of mice before being given tomato juice was 187.6 mg/dl. The average glucose ad random mice after being given tomato juice for 21 days was 136.8 mg/dl. There was a decrease in the average glucose ad random levels during the treatment group of mice by 50.8 mg/dl. Conclusion: Giving tomato juice for 21 days on blood glucose levels in mice based on Paired T-test shows there is a significant difference to the treatment group (O2) with before and after giving tomato juice p = <0.001 (p <0.05) and the results of the Independent T-test between the control group (O1) and the treatment group (O2) shows p = <0.001 (p <0.05) which means that there is a significant difference between the average blood glucose levels in mice after being given tomato juice. So it can be concluded that tomato juice has the potential to reduce blood glucose levels in mice. Likopen dapat menurunkan glukosa darah dengan cara menurunkan resistensi hormon insulin. Tujuan: Mengetahui pengaruh pemberian jus tomat (Solanum lycopersicum L) pada mencit diabetes melitus terhadap penurunan kadar glukosa darah sewaktu. Metode: Eksperimental laboratorium menggunakan rancangan Pre-Post Control Group Design dengan mencit sebagai hewan uji (Mus musculus). Uji statistik dilakukan dengan Independent dan Paired T-test. Hasil: Rata – rata gula darah sewaktu mencit sebelum diberikan jus tomat sebesar 187,6 mg/dl. Rata – rata glukosa darah sewaktu mencit sesudah diberikan jus tomat selama 21 hari sebesar 136,8 mg/dl. Terjadi penurunan rerata kadar glukosa darah sewaktu mencit kelompok perlakuan sebanyak 50,8 mg/dl. Kesimpulan: Pemberian jus tomat selama 21 hari terhadap kadar glukosa darah sewaktu pada mencit berdasarkan Paired T-test menunjukkan ada perbedaan signifikan terhadap kelompok perlakuan (O2) dengan sebelum dan sesudah pemberian jus tomat p = <0,001 (p<0,05) serta hasil uji Independent T-test antara kelompok kontrol (O1) dengan kelompok perlakuan (O2) menunjukkan p = <0,001 (p<0,05) yang berarti bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara rata-rata Glukosa Darah Sewaktu (GDS) sesudah diberikan jus tomat. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa jus tomat berpotensi menurunkan kadar glukosa darah sewaktu pada mencit. Kata kunci : diabetes melitus, glukosa darah sewaktu, tomat
