Abstract

ABSTRACT Breast milk (ASI) is the most suitable food for babies, as it provides the nutrients needed for their growth and development. Several factors influence the production and release of breast milk, including the baby's suction or breastfeeding frequency, diet, stress, rest patterns, breast anatomy, and breast care. However, during lactation, breast milk production is not always optimal. One way to address issues with breast milk production and release is by performing oxytocin massage. Oxytocin massage is a massage technique applied to the spinal area to stimulate the hormones prolactin and oxytocin, which can enhance breast milk production and release. This study aimed to determine the knowledge and skill scores of husbands in performing oxytocin massage on postpartum mothers. The study was conducted at midwifery practices within the working area of Gianyar I and Gianyar II Community Health Center. This research used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The total sampling method was used, involving 19 husbands of postpartum mothers on the first and second postpartum days whose wives gave birth at midwifery practices in Gianyar I and Gianyar II Community Health Center working area. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, resulting in a p-value of 0.069. The mean score of 89.84 was used as the cut-off point. This study showed that all respondents (100%) had good knowledge levels, and most of them (68.4%) were skilled, while 6 respondents (31.6%) were not skilled in performing oxytocin massage on postpartum mothers during the first and second postpartum days in midwifery practices within the working area of Gianyar I and Gianyar II Community Health Center. Based on these findings, it is recommended that midwives provide guidance on oxytocin massage to husbands and families to improve the quality of midwifery care, particularly during the postpartum period and in addressing breastfeeding issues.
