Abstract
Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) is an acute illness that becomes the major causes of death in developing countries. ARI can be caused by a number of microorganisms, including Klebsiella pneumoniae. This study aimed at identifying and investigating the sensitivity of Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria toward ciprofloxacin. This study was conducted descriptively by isolating Klebsiella pneumonia from the sputum sample of ARI’s patients and culturing the bacteria on MacConkey Agar, identified by biochemistry test and glucose fermentation test. Antibiotic sensitivity test was carried out by disc diffusion method. The obtained data were analyzed descriptively. The results of the study showed that 12 (40 %) out of 30 ARI’s patients had Klebsiella pneumonia bacteria, in which the characteristics are slimy colonies, pink, negative in Methyl Red and Indole test, and positive in Voges-proskauer,Citrat, Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Glucose, Laktose, Sucrose, Mannitol and Maltose test. The result of sensitivity test showed that all bacteria of Klebsiella pneumoniae are sensitive to ciprofloxacin. Keyword: Klebsiella pneumoniae, ARI, sensitivity, ciprofloxacin Infeksi Saluran Pernafasan Akut (ISPA) merupakan penyakit yang menyebabkan angka kematian yang cukup tinggi di negara berkembang. ISPA dapat disebabkan oleh berbagai mikroorganisme, salah satunya adalah Klebsiella pneumoniae. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan mengetahui sensitivitas bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae terhadap ciprofloxacin. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif dengan mengisolasi Klebsiella pneumoniae dari sampel sputum penderita ISPA dan di kultur pada media MacConkey Agar, diidentifikasi dengan uji biokimia dan uji fermentasi gula. Uji sensitivitas antibiotik dilakukan dengan metode cakram difusi, kemudian data dianalisis secara deskriftif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan 12 (40 %) dari 30 sampel sputum penderita ISPA terdapat bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae dengan ciri-ciri koloni berlendir, berwarna merah muda, negatif pada uji Methyl Red dan Indole, dan positif pada uji Voges-proskauer, Citrat, Triple Sugar Iron Agar, Glukosa, Laktosa, Sukrosa, Manitol dan Maltosa. Hasil uji sensitivitas menunjukkan semua bakteri Klebsiella pneumoniae sensitif terhadap Ciprofloxacin. Keyword: Klebsiella pneumoniae, ISPA, Sensitivitas, Ciprofloxacin
