Abstract

DESCRIPTION OF TOTAL CHOLESTEROL LEVELS IN ELDERLY IN PUSKESMAS I DENPASAR TIMUR ABSTRACT Total cholesterol is a combination of the amount of good cholesterol (HDL), bad cholesterol (LDL), and triglycerides in every deciliter of blood. The increase in total cholesterol in the body is a trigger factor for heart disease. Factors that affect total cholesterol levels in the blood are age, gender, BMI, and blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of total cholesterol levels in the elderly at Puskesmas I Denpasar Timur based on the characteristics of age, gender, BMI, and blood pressure. Type of this research is descriptive research. The number of samples used in this study were 76 people in the form of secondary data from the total cholesterol examination of the elderly in September to Desember 2020 at Puskesmas I Denpasar Timur. The results showed that the elderly with normal total cholesterol levels were 67,1% and high 32,9%. Age group with the highest total cholesterol levels was in the age group 60-69 years, the amount is 18,4%. The elderly with female gender had higher total cholesterol levels, the amount is 21,1%. Elderly with normal BMI (18,5-25,0) who have high total cholesterol levels, is 18,4%. The amount of elderly with high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels was 19,7%.
