Abstract

THE DIFFERENCE IN ADOLESCENT GIRLS' KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MENSTRUAL HYGIENE BEFORE AND AFTER EDUCATION USING ANIMATED VIDEO MEDIA ABSTRACT Lack of education about personal hygiene during menstruation remains a significant challenge in promoting the health of adolescent girls, particularly in developing countries. This study aimed to examine the differences in menstrual hygiene knowledge among adolescent girls before and after receiving an educational intervention through animated video media. Conducted in April 2025 at SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi, the study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 28 female students selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered before and after a six-minute educational video on menstrual hygiene. The results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ knowledge after the intervention. Before the intervention, the median knowledge score was 72.2, with scores ranging from 61 to 78. After the intervention, the median increased to 94.4, with a minimum score of 83 and a maximum of 100. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0.000 (α < 0.05) and a Z-score of -4.637, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The conclusion of this study is that animated video media has been proven effective in improving menstrual hygiene knowledge. and suggest their broader application in school-based adolescent reproductive health education. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan pengetahuan remaja putri tentang higiene menstruasi sebelum dan sesudah edukasi menggunakan media video animasi. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada April 2025 di SMP Negeri 3 Mengwi, dengan desain pre-eksperimental one group pretest-posttest. Sebanyak 28 siswi dipilih sebagai responden menggunakan teknik proportional random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa kuesioner pretest dan posttest, dengan penyuluhan melalui video edukatif berdurasi enam menit. Analisis data menggunakan uji Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Hasil menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan pengetahuan setelah intervensi. Sebelum edukasi, nilai median pengetahuan sebesar 72,2 dengan nilai minimum 61 dan maksimum 78. Setelah edukasi, median meningkat menjadi 94,4 dengan nilai minimum 83 dan maksimum 100. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan nilai p = 0,000 (α < 0,05) dan Z = -4,637, yang menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah media video animasi terbukti efektif meningkatkan pemahaman higiene menstruasi. Disarankan agar media edukatif visual dimanfaatkan lebih luas dalam promosi kesehatan reproduksi di sekolah. Kata kunci: higiene menstruasi, video edukasi, video animasi, pengetahuan, remaja putri
