Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where there is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastol of more than 90 mmHg. Many factors cause hypertension, one of which is the intake of sodium and fat. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship of fat and sodium intake with the degree of hypertension in hypertensive patients. This research is a literature review in March 2021 with qualitative research method. The subjects in this study were hypertensive patients, male, female and ≥18-70 years old. The research data included respondent characteristic data (gender, age) degree of hypertension, fat and sodium intake obtained from the journal studied then tabulated and analyzed qualitatively. Based on the results of the literature study, 5 journals mention women suffer from hypertension more and 1 journal mentions men suffer more from hypertension. The average intake of fat samples belongs to a fairly-high category. The average sodium intake of samples belongs to more categories. Based on the results of the analysis, there is a significant relationship between fat intake and the degree of hypertension with the significance of p= <0.05 (p= 0.001; 0.000; 0.044; 0.004). There is a significant association between sodium intake and hypertension degree with a significance level of p= <0.05 (p= 0.003; 0.000; 0.000). Hypertensive patients are advised to limit foods containing high fat and sodium, exercise, perform regular physical activity and keep track of blood pressure. If you want to do research with the same variables should be done directly so that the data obtained is quantitative and real because this research is done qualitatively so that many found bias.
