Abstract

ABSTRACT Consumption of iodized salt is very important for children's intelligence and growth. Therefore, it should be given counseling on iodized salt so that the knowledge of elementary school children increases about it. This study aims to determine the effect of counseling in increasing the knowledge of primary school children about iodized salt. The type of research used is quasi experimental with design is nonequivalent control group with sampling total sampling technique. The number of samples used in this research are 112 people. Respondents were divided into two groups; 56 people are treated as treatment group and 56 people are treated as control group. The study was conducted from May to June 2018. Data are collected by using questionnaire which has question about iodized salt. The results showed that the knowledge of iodized salt in the treatment group increased by 2.46. The average pretest score was 5.52, post test score was 7.98. After the analysis analyzed by wilcoxon, it was found that there was a significant difference between knowledge about iodized salt before and after given counseling with flash card media with p = 0,000 value. In the control group increased by 0.23. The average pretest score of 5.38, posttest of 5.61. After the analysis, it was found that there was a significant difference between the knowledge about iodized salt before and after given counseling without flash media card with p = 0,000. The hypothesis test was analyzed by using mann whitney with p value = 0,001 (α = 0,05) hence, can be concluded there was significant influence of counseling in increasing knowledge of elementary school children about iodized salt at SDN 6 Bebandem and SDN 1 Macang Year 2018. Considering the result of this research, it is expected that teachers can improve the giving of iodized salt materials to students by developing more interesting methods such as flash card media.
