Abstract

Background : Streptococcus pyogenes is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause respiratory infections. Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruit have antibacterial compounds such as tannins, format acid, flavonoids, saponins, perokside, and triterpenoids. This aims of the study is to determine the inhibitory power of Averrhoa bilimbi L. exstract at various concentrations on the growth of Streptococcus pyogenes. Method : This study was a true experiment with Posttest only control design, using Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method with four different concentrations there were 20, 40, 60, and 80%, negative control 96% ethanol and positif control Amoxicillin antibiotic. Result : The results showed that the average of inhibition zone diameter with the category of inhibitory is 11,43 mm (strong inhibitory), 19,13 mm (strong inhibitory), 24,58 mm (very strong inhibitory) and 30,99 mm (very strong inhibitory), and 96% ethanol is 0,00 mm . Statistic analysis with One Way Anova showed that the p value is 0.000, there was different inhibition zone of Streptococcus pyogenes growth at Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruits extract. In Least Significant Difference test showed that there is a significant different of inhibition zone in each extract concentration. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is there is inhibition zone in concentration extract of Averrhoa bilimbi L. fruits against Streptococcus pyogenes with in vitro study. Keywords: Averrhoa bilimbi L., Streptococcus pyogenes, inhibition zone, extract Latar Belakang : Streptococcus pyogenes merupakan bakteri patogen yang dapat menyebabkan infeksi saluran pernafasan. Belimbing wuluh (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) mengandung banyak zat aktif yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri seperti tanin, asam format, flavonoid, saponin, peroksida, dan triterpenoid. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol buah belimbing terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes. Metode : Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimen dengan desain penelitian Posttest only control design menggunakan ekstrak etanol buah belimbing wuluh dengan konsentrasi pengenceran 20, 40, 60, 80%, etanol 96% sebagai kontrol negatif dan Amoxicillin sebagai kontrol positif yang diujikan terhadap bakteri Streptococcus pyogenes dengan kepadatan 0,5 McFarland, menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer. Hasil, hasil penelitian diperoleh rerata diameter zona hambat ekstrak buah belimbing wuluh konsentrasi 20% yaitu 11,43 mm (kuat), konsentrasi 40% 19,13 mm (kuat), konsentrasi 60% yaitu 24,58 mm (sangat kuat), konsentrasi 80% yaitu 30,99 mm (sangat kuat), hasil kontrol etanol 96% 0,00 mm. Analisis statistik dengan uji One Way Anova diperoleh hasil bahwa nilai p adalah 0,000 ada perbedaan diameter zona hambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus pyogenes pada berbagai konsentrasi ekstrak buah belimbing wuluh. Dalam uji Least Significant Difference, diperoleh hasil ada perbedaan zona hambat yang bermakna pada masing-masing konsentrasi ekstrak. Simpulan, simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat zona hambat pertumbuhan Streptococcus pyogenes secara in vitro pada masing-masing konsentrasi ekstrak buah belimbing wuluh.
