Abstract

Medical waste management is crucial to ensure the safety of hospital workers, especially through the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). This study aimed to determine the relationship between work motivation and PPE compliance among medical waste handlers at Klungkung District Hospital. The study used an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 46 respondents were selected using total sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and direct observation, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results showed that most respondents had high work motivation (76.1%) and good PPE compliance (82.6%). However, no significant relationship was found between work motivation and PPE compliance (p = 0.405; CC = 0.122). This indicates that PPE compliance is more influenced by other factors such as knowledge, attitude, supervision, and PPE availability. Therefore, interventions to improve compliance should address various supporting factors beyond motivation. This research contributes significantly to strengthening occupational safety efforts in hospitals, particularly for personnel directly involved in handling medical waste.
