Abstract

EFFECTS OF DASH DIET COUNSELING (DIETARY APPROACH TO STOP HYPERTENSION) TO KNOWLEDGE AND MINERAL INTAKE OF PEOPLE WITH HYPERTENSION IN THE WORK AREA OF UPTD PUSKESMAS II DENPASAR BARAT ABSTRACT Less mineral intake can affect increasing blood pressure. Mineral intake, especially potassium, calcium, and magnesium, are very important to help reduce blood pressure, so people with hypertension need to be given counseling about the DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) diet as one of the interventions in the arrangement of eating so that the knowledge and mineral intake of people with hypertension increases. This study aims to find out the effect of DASH dietary counseling on the knowledge and intake of minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium) with in the work area of UPTD Puskesmas II Denpasar Barat. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with the design of One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. There were 47 people as the number of samples with multi-stage random sampling techniques. The research was conducted from December 2021 until January 2022. Data collection using DASH diet knowledge forms and 24-hour food recall. To find out the effect of DASH dietary counseling on knowledge and mineral intake, a statistical analysis of paired sample t-test is used at the confidence level (α = 0.05) on normal distribution data and Wilcoxon tests on abnormally distributed data. The results showed that knowledge of the DASH diet of people with hypertension before and after counseling increased by 36.6% (56.16 to 76.72). Mineral intake increased by 56.6% (2486.20 mg to 3893.81 mg), calcium increased by 89.1% (456.33 mg to 862.79 mg), and magnesium increased by 62.5% (391.64 mg to 634.42 mg). Based on the results of the paired sample t-test on knowledge data and magnesium intake before and after DASH diet counseling, there was a significant difference with the value of p<0.05. While the results of the potassium and calcium intake test using the Wilcoxon test obtained significant differences with the value of p<0.05. The results showed that there is an influence of DASH dietary counseling on knowledge and intake of minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium) and it is recommended that nutritionists may consider providing DASH dietary counseling to increase knowledge and mineral intake as one of the intervention in lowering blood pressure for people with hypertension.
