Abstract

The results of the 2018 Riskesdas show that the prevalence of obesity in Indonesia reaches 21.8% and shows that the Indonesian population consumes less vegetables and fruit in a day as much as 95.5%. This study aims to determine the relationship between the incidence of obesity based on knowledge of balanced nutrition with consumption patterns of fruit vegetables in adolescents in SMK Pariwisata Triatma Jaya Tabanan. This type of observational research with a cross sectional design was carried out in SMK Pariwisata Triatma Jaya Tabanan in May – June 2021 with a whole sample of 75 people. The data collected in this study are knowledge of balanced nutrition, consumption patterns of fruit vegetables including type, frequency and amount, and the incidence of obesity. The results of this study indicate that most of the knowledge of balanced nutrition among adolescents is in the sufficient category as much as 72.0%. Most of the adolescent fruit and vegetable consumption patterns are in the sufficient category as much as 72.0%. The incidence of adolescent obesity is 37.3%. Based on the results of the Pearson correlation statistical test, there was a significant relationship between knowledge of balanced nutrition and consumption patterns of fruit vegetables (r = 0.670; p = 0.000). There was a significant relationship between the consumption pattern of fruit vegetables and the incidence of obesity (r = -0.423; p = 0.000). The school plays an important role in optimizing students' knowledge of balanced nutrition by providing counseling and emphasizing balanced nutrition guidelines and creating programs that support students to consume vegetables and fruit, for example by eating vegetables and fruit.
