Abstract

Ni Nyoman Sukarmi, NIM P07131220070, Glycemic Index with Control of Blood Glucose Levels in Diabetes Mellitus Patients at Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar, under the guidance of Dr. Ni Komang Wiardani SST, M.Kes and Lely Cintari, SST, MPH Diabetes Mellitus is a collection of symptoms that arise in a person due to high blood glucose levels. High blood sugar levels are caused by the amount of the hormone insulin being less or less effective. Food glycemic index showed that high GI carbohydrates resulted in higher insulin retention than the group consuming low GI carbohydrates. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the glycemic index and controlling blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus. This study is anstudy observational with adesign. The cross sectional study was conducted at the Sanjiwani Hospital, Gianyar for 1 month. Sampling was done by sampling, and obtained a sample of 30 samples. The data collected is secondary data including: sample identity, menu glycemic index, blood levels during the sample. Data is collected by means of recording. The data obtained were then processed and analyzed using the Person correlation test. Of the 40 samples, most of them were male and over 50 years old, most of them had normal nutritional status. The glycemic index values of all samples were high GI, after checking blood sugar when most of the samples had uncontrolled blood sugar levels. Of the 40 samples, there were 40 people who had high GI with uncontrolled blood sugar levels, 28 samples, 12 samples were controlled. Person correlation test results obtained p < 0.005, it is concluded that there is a significant relationship between the glycemic index and controlling blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus.
