Abstract
BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING GUIDANCE ON MOTHER'S KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN EARLY NEONATES BREASTFEEDING ABSTRACT Failure to breastfeed often occurs in the breastfeeding process. The role of health workers plays an important role in the success of the breastfeeding in early neonates. Breastfeeding guidance can encourage breastfeeding mothers to give breast milk with the right technique. The purpose of this study is to prove the benefits of breastfeeding guidance on mother’s knowledge and skills in breastfeeding to early neonates at the UPTD Puskesmas Mengwi I of Badung Regency. This research used pre-experimental design with a one group pre-posttest design. The research sample involved 33 breastfeeding mothers who had babies aged 0-7 days determined by the purposive sampling technique. data collected using questionnaires and observation sheets which were analyzed using Paired T-test and Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there was an increase in the average level of knowledge before and after breastfeeding guidance from 74.85 to 78.03 and there was an increase in the average value of mother's skills in breastfeeding from 79.52 to 82.52. The results of the bivariate test showed that there was a benefit of breastfeeding guidance on mother's knowledge (p-value 0.008) and skills (p-value 0.031) in breastfeeding to early neonates. Breastfeeding mothers who have early neonates are expected to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills of breastfeeding by actively participating in counseling or guidance provided by health workers.
