Abstract

RELATION BETWEEN PRE-ECLAMPSIA AND LOW BIRTH WEIGHT BABY AT SANJIWANI HOSPITAL DURING YEAR 2018 TO 2020 ABSTRACT Besides being the main cause of maternal death, preeclampsia can also associated with incident of Low Birth Weight Babies (LBW). Pregnant women with preeclampsia experience maternal endothelial dysfunction causing reduction in placental circulation in which decreasing nutrition and oxygen supply for the baby, thus, resulting in low birth weight baby. Sanjiwani Gianyar is a type B regional hospital and a referred hospital for maternal and neonatal emergency form eastern part of Bali province. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the incidences of preeclampsia in LBW babies at Sanjiwani Hospital during 2018 until 2020. It was is a cross sectional study with correlation analytic method and using a total sampling technique. Data collection succeeded retrieve 35 medical records of mothers giving birth at Sanjiwani Hospital with a diagnosis of preeclampsia. Data analysis used univariate in the form of frequency distribution and bivariate using Chi Square test with a significance level of p <0.004. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the incidence of preeclampsia and LBW. Mothers with severe preeclampsia had 8,889 times higher risk of giving birth to low birth weight babies. Therefore, it is recommended that pregnant women are expected to know the risk factors for preeclampsia in order to prevent the occurrence of LBW births; health workers have to have ability to perceive the occurrence of preeclampsia in the early stage; and midwives need to carry out intensive monitoring to pregnant women with preeclampsia.
