Abstract
DESCRIPTION OF THE FACTORS CAUSING THE FAILURE OF EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING AT RENDANG HEALTH CENTER IN 2021 ABSTRACT Nutritional problems such as stunting and wasting are still nutritional problems that exist in the world. The percentage of malnutrition in Indonesia in 2018 was 3.9% and malnutrition 13.8%. Exclusive breastfeeding for babies is an effort to prevent stunting. The achievement of exclusive breastfeeding at Puskesmas Rendang was 42.8%, still far from being compared to the WHO target of 80%.The purpose of this study was to describe the factors causing the failure of exclusive breastfeeding at the Rendang Health Center. This type of research is descriptive research with cross sectional approach. The number of sample is 70 mother who have babies aged more than 6 months to 12 months. The sampling technique uses proportional random sampling technique. The study was conducted in April 2021. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that the internal factor that causes the failure of exclusive breastfeeding is breastfeeding factor that giving a prelactal feeding. Meanwhile, external factors that cause the failure of exclusive breastfeeding are encouragement and motivation from family and others not to exclusively breastfeed, as well as family habits in providing food or drink other than breast milk. It is hoped that health workers will improve their understanding of the physiology of lactation through pregnancy classes for third trimester pregnant women so that during childbirth, the mother does not provide prelactal food.
