Abstract

DESCRIPTION OF THE ANKLE BRACHIAL INDEX IN PATIENTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS TYPE II IN THE VILLAGE OF EAST PANGUYANGAN IN 2021 ABSTRACT Diabetes Mellitus Type II is a risk factor for various vascular diseases in men and women. This DM complication is related to macrovascular and microvascular dysfunction, early diagnostics is essential for assessing peripheral vascular disease, measuring the value of the ankle brachial index (ABI) is a non-invasive measure to assess the risk of peripheral vascular disease in primary care. The purpose of this study is to determine the value of the ankle brachial index in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in the area of Peguyangan Kangin village in 2021. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The total sample in this study was 44 respondents with Type II DM. The approach that the researchers used in this study was the prospect approach of a non-probability sampling technique with purposive sampling. The results showed that the majority of ABI values in Type II DM patients in the Panguyangan Kangin village area in 2021 belonged to the normal category and mild circulatory disorders, respondents with normal ABI values were 23 respondents (52.3%), respondents who experienced mild circulation disorders were 18 respondents (40.9%), respondents who experienced bordeline were 2 respondents (4.5%), and respondents who experience moderate circulation disorders are only 1 respondent (2.3%). Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are many factors that can affect the ABI value, including the duration of diabetes, history of hypertension, increased HbA1c, serum creatinine and history of retinopathy. This research can be an input for type II diabetes mellitus patients in the Panguyangan Kangin village area to carry out routine ABI checks to detect early blood vessel disorders in the extremities and as a prevention against the risk of diabetic foot.
