Abstract

The intake of nutrients for the unborn baby comes from the supply of nutrients in the mother's body. Pregnant women with poor nutritional status or experiencing Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK) tend to give birth to Low Birth Weight Babies (LBW). The research objective was to determine the relationship between chronic energy deficiency (KEK) in pregnant women and low birth weight babies at the UPTD Puskesmas III, North Denpasar District Health Office. This type of research is a case control study using acorrelation analytical research design retrospective. The study was conducted on 17-26 April 2021 with a total sampling technique. The sample size used was 60 respondents. Univariate analysis found that the incidence of pregnant women in KEK was 17 (28.3%) and the incidence of LBW was 30 (50%).test results Chi Square obtained p value = 0.045, which means that there is a relationship between KEK in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW. The result of OR = 3.333 95% CI .998 - 11,139 which means that pregnant women with KEK have a significant risk of 3.333 times of giving birth to LBW babies. The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between KEK in pregnant women and the incidence of LBW in Public Health Center III of the North Denpasar District Health Office in 2021. Health workers can carry out early detection related to the nutritional status of pregnant women so that the incidence of LBW can be prevented
