Abstract

Low birth weight (LBW) infants are still the main cause of neonatal death in Indonesia. Optimal nutrition is one of the important treatments of LBW. This study aims to determine the relationship between LBW gestational age and full feed achievement. The study was conducted in April – May 2021 with a cross sectional approach to LBW who were treated in Cempaka I NICU Level II RSUP Sanglah in 2020. The sample size was 62 LBW collected by purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using data collection sheets designed by researchers based on secondary data from medical records, including data on LBW characteristics, LBW gestational age and full feed achievement. The normality test showed that the data was not normally distributed with a gestational age p value of 0.001 with a median of 32 weeks, while the p value for achieving full feed was 0.000 with a median of 7 days. Data analysis was using the Spearman rank test, with the results of p value = 0.006 and r = -0.343. These results indicate that there is a significant weak correlation between LBW gestational age and full feed achievement, where the younger the LBW gestational age, the longer the full feed achievement. Further research is expected to find out other factors that are strongly correlated with the achievement of full feed. Keywords: low birth weigh (LBW), gestational age, full feed
