Abstract
Teeth and mouth have a big role in human life, especially in the process of digestion of food. Dental and oral health must be treated properly because healthy teeth and mouth will affect overall health. Most people still ignore the state of their dental health including school-age children. For this reason, the role of parents and teachers is needed to educate and teach children to maintain oral and dental hygiene. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of the knowledge of brushing teeth and oral hygiene in fifth grade students of SD Negeri 13 Sesetan in 2019. This study was a descriptive study. The results of a study on 19 fifth grade students of SD Negeri Sesetan showed that 17 students (89.5%) had a good level of knowledge, two students (10.5%) had a level of knowledge with fair criteria, and there were no students with less criteria. The average level of knowledge in students is 82.6 with good criteria. The results of research on oral hygiene (OHI-S) showed that most students namely 15 people (78.9%) had OHI-S with good criteria, four students (21.1%) with moderate criteria, and there were no students with poor criteria. The average OHI-S in students is 0.84 with good criteria. The results of OHI-S analysis based on the knowledge of brushing teeth found that most students, namely 13 people (76.5%) had OHI-S scores with good criteria with knowledge of brushing teeth in the good category as well. In conclusion, the percentage of knowledge about brushing teeth is mostly in good criteria and OHI-S is mostly in good criteria.
