Abstract
IDENTIFICATION Candida albicans ON VAGINAL SWAB SAMPLE OF PROSTITUTES AT PUSKESMAS II DENPASAR SELATAN ABSTRACT One of the groups which highly risk to get vulvovaginitis candidiasis is prostitutes. This study aims to identify and characterize Candida albicans from vaginal swab sample of prostitutes. This descriptive study was conducted by observing the presence of Candida albicans in 30 vaginal swab samples of prostitutes, by culturing on SDA media, microscopic observation, and germ tube test. The results of this study showed that from 30 samples, there were 9 samples (30.0%) positively existed for Candida albicans fungi. The characteristics of macroscopic Candida albicans found in SDA media are round, yellowish-white, smooth surface, distinctive smell like yeast with soft colony consistency. On the other side, microscopic observations with LPCB staining found yeast cells, blastospores, pseudohyphae, chlamidiospores and germ tube formed in incubation with human serum. Based on these results, it is expected for prostitutes to always maintain and control the health of reproductive organst regularly, especially about sexual transmitted infections.
