Abstract

CORRELATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND PARENT'S ROLE OF HAND HYGIENE BEHAVIOR AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS Study was conducted in Bebandem District 2019 ABSTRACT Hand hygiene is a sanitation activity to cleanse the hands of dirt and germs. Hand hygiene behavior is influenced by several factors including knowledge and parent's role. The purpose of this study is to determine the correlation between knowledge and the parent's role of hand hygiene behavior of elementary school students in Bebandem District. Design of this study is cross-sectional design, using Chi-Square test. This study used 86 students as sample. The results showed that average students (62,8%) had adequate knowledge of hand hygiene. 70,9% of parents have an adequate role in their children ‘s hand hygiene education. 64% of students have adequate handy hygiene behavior. The results of statistical tests show that there is a correlation between knowledge and behavior, indicated by p-value = 0.001. The statistical test shows that there is a correlation between a parent's role and the behavior, with p-value = 0.002. The suggestions of this study are that hand hygiene education must be also taught from the family and school, not just from health institutions so that children will understand better and get used to doing hand hygiene at every important moment of hand hygiene.
