Abstract
Medication adherence is a key factor in successfully controlling blood pressure in hypertensive patients, yet non-adherence remains common, including at UPTD Puskesmas 1 West Denpasar, recorded as having the highest hypertension caseload in Denpasar City in 2024, totaling 5,942 cases, with 7 of 12 patients reported non- adherent to treatment. Self-efficacy is thought to play an important role in shaping this adherence behavior. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence among hypertensive patients in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas 1 West Denpasar. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was used, involving 88 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Statistical testing used the Spearman Rank correlation test. Most respondents were aged 60–80 years (68.5%), male (58.0%), senior-high- school educated (39.8%), self-employed/traders/service workers (47.7%), and had hypertension for over 5 years (61.4%), with high self-efficacy (46.6%) and moder- ate adherence (45.5%). Results showed p=0.001 and r=0.552, concluding a signif- icant, strong relationship between self-efficacy and adherence. Health centers are advised to develop education programs targeting self-efficacy through counseling, peer support groups, and routine screening at every visit.
