Abstract
ABSTRACT After the baby is born, breastfeeding is very important because breast milk is the best and complete food for babies. The importance of exclusive breastfeeding is a program recommended by the Government of the Ministry of Health, where babies are only given breast milk until the age of 6 months. Based on the target of the Bali Provincial Health Office Strategic Plan (2014), the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in West Denpasar I public health center only reached 70.7% and has not reached the target set of 76%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and employment status of mothers with exclusive breastfeeding in the work area of West Denpasar I public health center, Bali Province. This type of observational study with cross sectional design and the number of research samples was 65 mothers of poor mothers. Data was collected by interview method. Data analysis using Chi Square statistical test. From the results of the study, it is known that mothers who have a good level of knowledge as much as (55.4%), the level of knowledge is enough as much (41.5%), and the level of knowledge is less as much (3.1%). Most mothers (53.8%) did work outside the home, and as many as (46.2%) did not work. Whereas (55.4%) mothers gave exclusive breastfeeding, and (44.6%) did not give exclusive breastfeeding. The results showed that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge with exclusive breastfeeding, p = 0.028. There is a relationship between the employment status of mothers with exclusive breastfeeding, p = 0.028. Keywords : knowledge, mother’s work status , exclusive breastfeeding
