Abstract
IDENTIFICATION OF THE PRESENCE OF SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTH WORM EGGS ON THE FINGERNAILS OF BRICK CRAFTSMEN IN TUMBU VILLAGE, KARANGASEM DISTRICT, KARANGASEM REGENCY ABSTRACT Background: Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are intestinal nematodes that in their life cycle require soil for the maturation process so that workers who are in direct contact with the soil, especially brick craftsmen, have a high chance of being infected with worms. Poor personal hygiene can facilitate the transmission of STH infection. Based on primary data, the personal hygiene of brick craftsmen in Tumbu Village, Karangasem District, Karangasem Regency is still lacking. Objective: This study aims to determine the presence of STH worm eggs on the fingernails of brick craftsmen in Tumbu Village, Karangasem District, Karangasem Regency. Method: This type of research is descriptive research, January to March 2023. The samples in this study were taken by purposive sampling. Data were obtained through examination of hand nail clippings using the buoyancy method on 10 samples. The level of personal hygiene is obtained through interviews and observation. Result: Based on the results of a study of 10 samples of brick craftsmen's fingernails in Tumbu Village, Karangasem District, Karangasem Regency, it was found that 4 samples (40%) were positive for STH worm eggs with the prevalence of Trichuris trichiura (25%) and Ascaris lumbricoides (75%) . Conclusion: Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that 4 samples (40%) contained STH worm eggs and 6 samples (60%) did not contain STH worm eggs. Keywords: soil transmitted helminth, brick craftsmen, personal hygiene IDENTIFIKASI KEBERADAAN TELUR CACING SOIL TRANSMITTED HELMINTH PADA KUKU TANGAN PEKERJA BATU BATA DI DESA TUMBU KECAMATAN KARANGASEM KABUPATEN KARANGASEM ABSTRAK Latar belakang : Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) merupakan nematoda usus yang dalam siklus hidupnya membutuhkan tanah untuk proses pematangan sehingga pekerja yang berhubungan langsung dengan tanah khususnya pekerja batu bata mempunyai peluang besar terinfeksi kecacingan. Personal hygiene yang buruk dapat mempermudah penularan infeksi STH . Berdasarkan data primer, personal hygiene pekerja batu bata di Desa Tumbu,Kecamatan karangasem, Kabupaten karangasem masih kurang. Tujuan : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keberadaan telur cacing STH pada kuku tangan pekerja batu bata di Desa Tumbu,Kecamatan karangasem, Kabupaten karangasem. Metode : Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif, Januari sampai dengan Maret 2023. Sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil dengan purposive sampling. Data diperoleh melalui pemeriksaan potongan kuku tangan dengan menggunakan metode apung terhadap 10 sampel. Tingkat personal hygiene diperoleh melalui wawancara dan observasi.Hasil : Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dari 10 sampel kuku tangan pekerja batu bata di Desa Tumbu,Kecamatan karangasem, Kabupaten karangasem ditemukan sebanyak 4 sampel (40%) positif mengandung telur cacing STH dengan prevalensi Trichuris trichiura (25%) dan Ascaris lumbricoides (75%). Kesimpulan : Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat 4 sampel (40%) mengandung telur cacing STH dan 6 sampel (60%) tidak mengandung telur cacing STH.
