Abstract
Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, is a disorder of the blood vessels that causes the supply of oxygen and nutrients carried by the blood to be obstructed to the body's tissues. One of the factors for the occurrence of hypertension is high fat consumption, especially foods high in saturated fat and high cholesterol, which can affect high cholesterol stores and increase blood cholesterol levels. These deposits will later accumulate in the blood vessels to become plaque which will cause narrowing and blockage of blood vessels. This blockage makes the flexibility or elasticity of blood vessels reduced thereby increasing blood volume and pressure. One of the other risk factors for hypertension is obesity which will increase the burden on the heart to pump blood throughout the body, as a result blood pressure tends to be higher. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between saturated fat intake and obesity status on the degree of hypertension in hypertensive outpatients at Puskesmas I East Denpasar. The type of research used was an observational study with a cross-sectional design using consecutive sampling techniques, totaling 45 people. Data collected by interview and measurement methods. Data is presented with frequency tables and cross tables. The results of the Sperman correlation analysis test stated that there was a significant relationship between saturated fat intake and the degree of hypertension in the sample (p=0.021, r=0.342). Then, after that the same test was carried out to obtain the result that there was no significant relationship between obesity status and the degree of hypertension in the sample (p=0.118, r=0.236).
