Abstract

OVERVIEW OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT MAINTAINING DENTAL HEALTH AND PERMANENT TOOTH CARIES IN IV GRADE STUDENTS AT SDN 18 SESETAN IN 2026 ABSTRACT Dental and oral health are often neglected by the community, even though they play an important role as the main pathway for germs and bacteria to enter the body. The awareness of children aged 10–12 years in maintaining dental and oral health is still low, as seen from their habit of being reluctant to brush their teeth and frequently consuming sweet foods. This study aimed to determine the overview of knowledge regarding dental health maintenance and permanent dental caries among fourth grade students at SDN 18 Sesetan in 2026. This research was descriptive in nature, using primary data in the form of knowledge test results and dental examination results of students, as well as secondary data in the form of student attendance records. The results of the study on 37 students showed that the highest level of knowledge was in the sufficient category, consisting of 22 students (59.46%). The number of students who experienced dental caries was 24 students (64.87%). The average permanent dental caries score of the students was 1.43. The average permanent dental caries based on the level of knowledge regarding dental and oral health maintenance was highest in the poor category at 1.61 and lowest in the good category at 0.5 The results of the study concluded that most students had a sufficient level of knowledge regarding dental and oral health maintenance, while the smallest proportion was in the good category. The average level of knowledge was categorized as sufficient, and the average rate of dental caries was still very high. Keywords: knowledge; permanent dental caries; students. GAMBARAN PENGETAHUAN TENTANG PEMELIHARAAN KESEHATAN GIGI DAN KARIES GIGI TETAP PADA SISWA KELAS V DI SDN 18 SESETAN TAHUN 2026 ABSTRAK Kesehatan gigi dan mulut sering kurang diperhatikan masyarakat, padahal berperan sebagai jalur masuk kuman dan bakteri. Kesadaran anak usia 10–12 tahun dalam menjaga kesehatan gigi dan mulut masih rendah, terlihat dari kebiasaan malas menyikat gigi dan sering mengonsumsi makanan manis. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran pengetahuan tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan karies gigi tetap pada siswa kelas IV SDN 18 Sesetan tahun 2026. Jenis penelitian adalah deskriptif dengan data primer berupa hasil tes pengetahuan dan pemeriksaan gigi siswa, serta data sekunder berupa absensi siswa. Hasil penelitian terhadap 37 siswa menunjukkan tingkat pengetahuan terbanyak berada pada kategori cukup sebanyak 22 siswa (59,46%). Jumlah siswa yang mengalami karies sebanyak 24 siswa (64,87%). Rata-rata karies gigi tetap siswa yaitu 1,43. Rata-rata karies gigi tetap berdasarkan tingkat pengetahuan tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut paling tinggi pada kategori kurang sebanyak 1,61 dan yang terendah pada kategori baik sebesar 0,5. Hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa memiliki tingkat pengetahuan tentang pemeliharaan kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan kategori cukup dan terkecil pada kategori baik dengan rata-rata pengetahuan cukup dan rata-rata karies gigi masih sangat tinggi.
