Abstract
Pneumonia is an acute lung infection that causes the alveoli in the lungs to fill with pus or fluid resulting in tightness and reduced oxygen intake. Early symptoms of pneumonia are fever, chills, shortness of breath, chest pain, and accompanied by a cough with thick phlegm. This causes pneumonia patients run in to ineffective airway clearance. To solve the problem, pursed lips breathing can be done to increase the clearance of the patient's airway. The purpose of this study was to determine ineffective airway cleaning nursing care for pneumonia patients. The results of the case study, the two patients were managed after being given intervention according to the standards of Indonesian nursing intervention and given the pursed lips breathing innovation intervention, airway cleaning in patient 1 and patient 2 improved, as evidenced by reduced patient shortness, improved respiratory rate, and sputum began to come out. It was concluded that there was an effect of pursed lips breathing combined with effective cough on the effectiveness of the airway in both managed patients, this can be seen from the evaluations that have been carried out which showed a significant change in both patients. It is hoped that health workers can apply pursed lips breathing technique to pneumonia patients as well as patients and their families can increase access to information and increase the role of families in handling pneumonia.
