Abstract

ABSTRACT Bronchopneumonia is an acute respiratory infection commonly occurring in infants and children, characterized by increased secretion production that obstructs the airway, leading to ineffective airway clearance. This case report aims to describe nursing care for a child with bronchopneumonia in the Jempiring Ward of Bangli Regional Hospital in 2026. The method used was descriptive with a case study approach on An.P, a 1-year-8-month-old boy. The assessment results showed shortness of breath, cough, runny nose, fever, respiratory rate of 40 breaths per minute, chest wall retraction, nasal flaring, and additional breath sounds of rhonchi with excessive sputum. The nursing diagnosis was ineffective airway clearance related to retained secretions. Nursing interventions included airway management and respiratory monitoring such as semi-Fowler’s position, chest physiotherapy, fluid administration, effective cough education, and collaboration with medical therapy including oxygen, nebulizer, antibiotics, bronchodilators, and mucolytics. Implementation was carried out systematically for 3×24 hours. Evaluation showed improvement indicated by reduced dyspnea, decreased sputum production, and improved respiratory rate.In conclusion, appropriate nursing care effectively improves airway clearance. Nurses are advised to enhance respiratory monitoring, provide family education, and ensure continuous care optimally.
