Abstract

Comprehensive midwifery care was essential in ensuring maternal and infant health. Continuity of care covered pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and family planning. Based on MPDN data (2022–2023), maternal and infant mortality rates had increased, highlighting the need for continuous quality care. This case study evaluated midwifery care provided to a woman at 19 weeks and 3 days of gestation through the postpartum period and newborn care. The mother experienced lower back pain during pregnancy, which progressed normally. Labor occurred spontaneously at 38 weeks and 1 day at Bhayangkara Hospital Denpasar, supported by complementary care such as birth ball and counterpressure techniques. The delivery was normal, and a second-degree perineal tear was managed appropriately. The baby was born healthy, received Early Breastfeeding Initiation (EBI), and essential newborn care. The postpartum period proceeded without complications, marked by normal uterine involution, lactation, and lochia. The mother chose an IUD for contraception after the postpartum period. Newborn care was provided until 42 days of age, including growth monitoring and infant massage. However, mental health screening, which was part of the 12T antenatal care standard, was not performed.Midwives were expected to provide care in accordance with their scope and professional standards to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
