Abstract

TESTING THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF A COMBINATION EXTRACT OF ALOE VERA (Aloe vera) AND NEEM LEAVES (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) IN INHIBITING THE GROWTH OF Staphylococcus aureus BACTERIA ABSTRACT Background Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacterium that causes antibiotic resistance which poses serious problems because it can cause global deaths in 44.1% of cases. Aloe vera and neem leaves contain flavonoid compounds, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, steroids, triterpenoids that act as antibacterial substances. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of the combination extract of aloe vera (Aloe vera) and neem leaves (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Method: true experimental design with a "post-test only control group design" using disk diffusion with four concentrations of 25, 50, 75, and 100%. The working control uses chloramphenicol 30 µg and the negative control uses 96% ethanol. The data is analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk statistical test, followed by One-Way Anova, and the confirmation test is the LSD test. Result: The results showed that the combination of aloe vera and neem leaf extracts was able to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with the diameter of the inhibition zones formed of 25, 50, 75, and 100% respectively, namely 9.76 mm, 11.38 mm, 13.95 mm, and 15.87. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is difference in the antibacterial activity of the combination of aloe vera and neem leaf extracts on the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. DALAM MENGHAMBAT PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus ABSTRAK Latar Belakang Staphylococcus aureus merupakan bakteri patogen penyebab terjadinya resistensi antibiotik yang menimbulkan masalah serius karena dapat menyebabkan kematian global sebesar 44,1% kasus. Lidah buaya dan daun mimba mengandung senyawa flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tanin, steroid, triterpenoid yang berperan sebagai zat antibakteri. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak kombinasi lidah buaya (Aloe vera) dan daun mimba (Azadirachta indica A. Juss.) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Metode penelitian true experimental dengan desain “post-test only control group design” menggunakan difusi cakram dengan empat konsentrasi yaitu 25, 50, 75, dan 1000%, kontrol kerja menggunakan kloramfenikol 30 µg dan kontrol negatif menggunakan etanol 96%. Data dianalisis uji statistik Shapiro Wilk, dilanjutkan Uji One- Way Anova, serta uji konfirmasi yaitu Uji LSD. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kombinasi lidah buaya dan daun mimba mampu menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk yaitu 25, 50, 75, dan 100% secara berturut-turut yaitu 9,76 mm, 11,38 mm, 13,95 mm, dan15,87. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak kombinasi lidah buaya dan daun miba terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.
