Abstract

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AGE, FAMILY SUPPORT AND DURATION OF DM SUFFERING WITH SELF-CARE IN TYPE 2 DM PATIENTS WITH PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY ABSTRACT Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease caused by insulin resistance, pancreatic β-cell dysfunction, and chronic inflammation of peripheral tissues, which together increase blood glucose levels. Several factors affect the ability of diabetic patients to carry out diabetic self-care, namely age, family support and duration of DM. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between age, family support and duration of DM with diabetic self-care in Type 2 diabetic patients who experience peripheral neuropathy. This research method is quantitative non-experimental with a correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was type 2 diabetic patients who experienced peripheral neuropathy and made visits to the Internal Medicine Polyclinic as many as 54 people selected by purposive sampling who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The collected of datas were statistically tested with Spearman Rank test. The correlation coefficient The correlation between age and self-care shows a p value of 0.001 <0.05 with a value of r = 0.446 which means there is a correlation with moderate strength. The correlation of family support with self care shows p value 0.001 < 0.05 with r value = 0.448 which means there is a correlation with moderate strength. The correlation between the duration of DM with self care shows a p value of 0.001 <0.05 with a value of r = 0.510 which means there is a correlation with moderate strength. Nurses are expected to be more proactive in conducting health education related to self-care in type 2 DM patients, especially those who have experienced complications such as peripheral neuropathy. Keywords: Self-care; Age; Family support; Duration of DM; DM Type 2 HUBUNGAN USIA, DUKUNGAN KELUARGA DAN LAMA MENDERITA DM DENGAN SELF CARE PADA PASIEN DM TIPE 2 YANG MENGALAMI NEUROPATI PERIFER ABSTRAK Diabetes Melitus tipe 2 adalah penyakit metabolik kronis yang disebabkan oleh resistensi insulin, disfungsi sel β pankreas, dan inflamasi kronis jaringan perifer, yang bersama-sama meningkatkan kadar glukosa darah. Beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi kemampuan pasien DM dalam menjalankan self care yaitu usia, dukungan keluarga dan lama menderita DM. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan usia, dukungan keluarga dan lama menderita DM dengan self care pada pasein DM Tipe 2 yang mengalami neuropati perifer. Metode penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif non-eksperimental dengan desain penelitian correlational dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian merupakan pasien DM tipe 2 yang mengalami neuropati perifer dan melakukan kunjungan ke Poliklinik Interna sebanyak 54 orang yang dipilih secara purposive sampling yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan ekslusi. Data yang terkumpul diuji secara statistik dengan uji Spearman Rank. Hubungan usia dengan self care menunjukan p value 0,001 < 0,05 dengan nilai r = 0,446 yang artinya ada hubungan dengan kekuatan sedang. Hubungan dukungan keluarga dengan self care menunjukan p value 0,001 < 0,05 dengan nilai r = 0,448 yang artinya ada hubungan dengan kekuatan sedang. Hubungan lama menderita DM dengan self care menunjukan p value 0,001 < 0,05 dengan nilai r = 0,510 yang artinya ada hubungan dengan kekuatan sedang. Perawat diharapkan lebih proaktif dalam melakukan edukasi kesehatan terkait perawatan diri (self-care) pada pasien DM tipe 2, terutama yang telah mengalami komplikasi seperti neuropati perifer.
