Abstract

THE DIFFERENCES IN URIC ACID LEVELS AMONG ELDERLY USING SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC AND ELECTRODE-BASED BIOSENSOR METHODS ABSTRACT Uric acid is a nitrogen compound produced from the catabolism of purines both from the diet and from endogenous nucleic acids. Gout is experienced by those with hyperuresemia, a rise in uric acid levels. Age is a factor that can impact uric acid levels, particularly in the elderly. It is possible to detect uric acid levels using two different methods: the Electrode-Based Biosensor approach, which is more easily accessible, and the spectrophotometric method, which is the gold standard for measuring uric acid levels. The objective of this study is to compare the effects of the Electrode-based Biosensor technique and Spectrophotometry method on uric acid levels among elderly. This study is cross-sectional, analytical observational study. Using the Accidental Sampling approach, a sample of forty-four elderly patients having laboratory exams was obtained.
