Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) has symptoms that often appear, namely shortness of breath and excessive sputum production. Excess sputum production will interfere with airway patency and cause ineffective airway clearance. The purpose of writing this Final Scientific Paper for Nurses is to find out how ineffective airway clearance nursing care in patients with COPD by looking at and comparing the two cases. At the assessment stage, the two research subjects came with complaints of shortness of breath and coughing up phlegm, the objective data found were ineffective cough, excess sputum, wheezing and rhonchi, dyspnea and restlessness. Based on these signs and symptoms, the nursing diagnosis that appears is ineffective airway clearance. The main action taken is the provision of effective coughing exercises with the intervention of teaching the correct cough technique and providing the appropriate position so that sputum production can be smooth. After being given nursing care 1x 2 hours, the results of effective coughing increased, dyspnea decreased, anxiety decreased, rhonchi decreased and breathing patterns improved. The results of the evaluation showed that giving effective coughing exercises was able to improve airway clearance in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The conclusion of the effective coughing action has similarities between the theory and its application. Suggestions for effective coughing measures can be applied in overcoming the problem of airway clearance in COPD patients. Keywords: COPD, Ineffective Airway Clearance, Effective Cough Exercise
