Abstract

OBESITY RELATIONSHIP WITH THE INCIDENCE OF DIABETES MELLITUS ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a disease whose prevalence in Indonesia is quite high, according to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), Indonesia is ranked number seven with the highest number of diabetes mellitus sufferers in the world. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus and obesity increases in line with changes in lifestyle and diet. This study aims to determine the relationship between obesity and the incidence of diabetes mellitus based on a literature review of the existing literature. The subjects of this study were people with obesity and diabetes mellitus. This research is a literature review which was conducted in April 2021. The data were obtained from 10 research journals which were analyzed according to the aims of the researcher. The youngest sample was 15 years old and the oldest was 69 years old with an average age above 40 years and women became the largest sample of the study. Results of literature review The highest percentage of obese sufferers is 83.8% and the minimum percentage is 21.7%. 3 journals discussing diabetes mellitus, 1 journal with the category of type II diabetes mellitus and other types, and 2 journals discussing diabetes mellitus in general. The conclusion of this study is the results of a literature review of the relationship between obesity and the incidence of diabetes mellitus, 8 journals said there was a relationship between obesity and diabetes mellitus and 2 journals said there was a significant relationship between obesity and diabetes mellitus Keywords: Obesity, Diabetes mellitus
