Abstract

Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory tract infection caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) 2019. The most common nursing problem in patients with COVID-19 is inadequate airway clearance. effective. Ineffective airway clearance is the inability to clear secretions or blockages in the airways caused by accumulation of sputum in the airways which will result in inadequate ventilation. The purpose of writing this scientific paper is to describe ineffective airway clearance nursing care for Mr. WA with COVID-19 in the Nusa Indah Isolation Room, Sanglah Hospital. The method of writing this scientific paper is a case study by providing nursing care for 3 days to patients. Based on the data from the nursing assessment, the main nursing diagnosis was formulated in patients with ineffective airway clearance related to foreign bodies in the airway. Nursing intervention and implementation to overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance is giving prone position. Prone position is a strategy by positioning the patient to lie on his stomach to treat acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in patients with COVID-19, which is given to the patient for 3 days, once a day for 3 hours. The results of the evaluation of the nursing interventions that have been carried out show that the patient says that the shortness of breath has decreased, seems to be able to cough effectively, dyspnea seems to decrease, the respiratory rate has improved from 36 x/minute to 24 x/minute The provision of this prone position intervention is expected to become an intervention that is routinely applied to all patients to overcome ineffective airway clearance in patients with COVID-19.
