Abstract
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic disease that attacks the lungs. This disease is irreversible and chronic so it has a high rate of morbidity and mortality and can be life-threatening. This chronic obstructive pulmonary disease often has an increase in sputum production, causing ineffective airway clearance problems in patients. Independent nursing interventions that can be done to help overcome the problem of ineffective airway clearance are providing a semi-Fowler's position, Fowler's position, drinking warm water and coughing effectively. However, the effective cough intervention was not maximal, so an additional intervention in the form of pursed lip breathing was given. The purpose of this study was to determine ineffective airway clearance nursing care in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The method used in this research is a case study. The results of this study indicate that after being given nursing care for 3x24 hours with pursed lip breathing intervention, the problem of ineffective airway clearance is resolved, marked by the achievement of all the established outcome criteria. Several studies have proven that the administration of pursed lip breathing has a positive impact on airway clearance characterized by reduced shortness of breath and productive cough. Giving pursed lip breathing can be an independent nursing intervention in overcoming the problem of ineffective airway clearance. Keywords: COPD, Ineffective airway clearance, Purses Lip Breathing
