Abstract
Children with mental retardation really need special support from family, because this support can affect the child's development, the support provided by parents can be in the form of emotional and physical support, or support that stimulates children's growth and development, such as support in social interactions. The purpose of this study was to determine the description of family support in caring for children with mental retardation. This research was conducted at SLB Negeri 2 Buleleng in 2021. The number of samples was 56 respondents using simple random sampling method. The measuring instrument used was a questionnaire. The results of this study indicate that family support for the respondents shows an average score of 83.17, the lowest score is 65, and the highest score is 100. Most of them have good support as many as 50 respondents (89.3%). Based on age, most of them were 27-35 years old as many as 19 respondents (33.9%). Based on gender, most of the respondents were female as many as 30 respondents (53.6%). Based on education, it was found that most of them had high school education / equivalent as many as 28 respondents (50%). Based on occupation, most of them work as IRT as many as 20 respondents (35.7%). Based on this, it is hoped that the family can maintain the good family support that has been given to children with mental retardation in improving the development of the child.
