Abstract

Abstract : Low Birth Weight (LBW) is closely related to neonatal morbidity and mortality. Management of LBW infants in developing countries remains limited, due to the low availability of incubators. Kangaroo Mother Care has been shown to be effective for newborns, especially LBW infants, in which skin to skin contact may be conducive for infants weight gain, thermoregulation and heart rate stability. This study aims to find out the description of the application of Kangaroo Mother Care in Low Birth Weight Babies. This study is a literature review using five international, five national journals and one scientific papers. The result of identifying the journals found that the frequency and duration of KMC are carried out intermittently, performed 3 times with a minimum of at least 30 minute and a maximum of 8 hours by gradual skin-to-skin contact. Kangaroo Mother Care is usually do by Mother and Father. Occurrence weight gain after KMC because it is very effective is done to meet the baby's most basic needs namely warmth, protection against infection, stimulation, safety and affection. Health workers are expected can provide education and motivation to mothers to take care of the Kangaroo Mother Care. Keywords: Kangaroo Mother Care; Low Birth Weight Abstrak : Berat Badan Lahir Rendah (BBLR) berhubungan erat dengan morbiditas dan mortalitas neonatal.
