Abstract

Abstract : Colostrum is the mother's milk that contains high antibodies, largest production occurs about 2-3 days postpartum. The success of the giving colostrum continued until six months (exclusive breast milk) useful to reduce pain and infant mortality. More than 90% of infant mortality occurs in neonatal period of Denpasar city. Primary health center number 1 of East Denpasar district has the lowest exclusive breast milk rate. The purpose of the study is to identify the success of giving colostrum on the second day of postpartum in the work area of primary health center number 1 of East Denpasar district. This description research conducted from 15th March to 30th April 2020 with nonprobability sampling technique. Sample used 23 mothers who were gave birth on 1st February to 30th March 2020. Data collected from interview by phone and whatsapp applications. The result showed most of the mothers were success to giving colostrum on the second day of postpartum, from the 20-35 years old, primipara, secondary education level, and working status group. Breastfeeding mothers expected to add more information about colostrum, health workers expected to spread information, institution expected to provide numerous references, and researchers expected to develop observational research and add other variables.
