Abstract

THE CORRELATION OF PARENTS SMOKING HABITS WITH THE INCIDENCE OF ARI IN CHILDREN UNDER FIVE YEARS ABSTRACT Background: Children under five years are very vulnerable to disease, because the immune system is still weak and imperfect. One of the diseases is ARI which can cause death. Parental smoking is a factor in ARI in children under five years. Parental smoking habits can cause children to be exposed to cigarette smoke and make children as passive smokers. Purpose : This literature review aims to examine research articles that discuss the correlation of parents smoking habits with incidence of ARI in children under five years. Methods: Articles collected from electronic journals from Researchgate, Google Scholar, Garuda Portal, Pubmed were published between 2010-2019. The keywords used in the search are the smoking habits of parents, the incidence of ARI in children under five years, and found 13 articles related to keywords. Results : Parental smoking habits have a significant correlation with the incidence of ARI, but there is one study that found that the insignificant correlation between passive smokers in the household (toddlers exposed to cigarette smoke from parents) with ARI events is probably due because of the selected research and insufficient number of samples, but the risk of having an ARI is a bit high. Conclusions and recommendations: This literature review shows that there is a more significant correlation between parental smoking habits and ARI in children under five years. It is hoped that parents who have the habit of smoking can reduce smoking, especially smoking in the house and adopt a clean and healthy lifestyle. Keywords : parental smoking habits, incidence of ARI in children under five years HUBUNGAN KEBIASAAN MEROKOK ORANG TUA DENGAN KEJADIAN ISPA PADA BALITA ABSTRAK Latar Belakang : Balita sangat rentan terkena penyakit, karena sistem imun yang masih lemah dan belum sempurna. Salah satu penyakitnya adalah ISPA yang dapat menyebabkan kematian. Kebiasaan merokok orang tua merupakan salah satu faktor terjadinya ISPA pada balita. Kebiasaan merokok orang tua dapat menyebabkan anak akan terpapar asap rokok dan menjadikan anak sebagai perokok pasif. Tujuan : Telaah literatur ini bertujuan untuk menelaah artikel penelitian yang meneliti tentang hubungan kebiasaan merokok orang tua dengan kejadian ISPA pada balita. Metode : Artikel dikumpulkan dari jurnal-jurnal elektronik dari Researchgate, Google Scholar, Portal Garuda, Pubmed diterbitkan antara tahun 2010-2019. Kata kunci yang digunakan dalam pencarian adalah kebiasaan merokok orang tua, kejadian ISPA pada balita, dan ditemukan 13 artikel yang berhubungan dengan kata kunci. Hasil : Kebiasaan merokok orang tua memiliki hubungan yang signifikan dengan kejadian ISPA, namun ada satu penelitian yang ditemukan bahwa hubungan yang tidak signifikan antara perokok pasif dalam rumah tangga (balita yang terpapar asap rokok dari orang tua) dengan kejadian ISPA, hal ini disebabkan karena penelitian yang dipilih dan jumlah sampel yang tidak mencukupi, tetapi resiko memiliki ISPA sedikit tinggi. Kesimpulan dan saran : Telaah literatur ini menunjukkan bahwa lebih banyak adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara kebiasaan merokok orang tua dengan kejadian ISPA pada balita. Diharapkan orang tua yang memiliki kebiasaan merokok dapat mengurangi merokok terutama merokok di dalam rumah dan menerapkan pola hidup bersih dan sehat.
