Abstract
Dental and oral health problems in one of them arise due to behavioral factors or neglect of dental and oral hygiene. One method of measuring or assessing dental and oral hygiene is the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S). Persons with visual impairments need special dental and oral health services. This study aims to determine the brushing behavior of the blind and OHI-S at PSBN Mahatmiya Bali in 2019. The method of research conducted is a descriptive method. The number of respondents in this study is 45 people. The results showed that blind people had teeth brushing behavior with very good criteria that as many 3 people (7%), the good criteria were 6 people (13%), enough criteria were 8 people (18%), and the criteria needed guidance were 28 people (62 %). The average of teeth brushing behavior is 48,76 with a needed guidance criteria. Persons with visual impairments who have OHI-S with good criteria are 12 people (27%), medium criteria are 24 people (53%), and bad criteria are 9 people (20%). The average of OHI-S is 1,98 with medium criteria. The average OHI-S with visual impairments with teeth brushing behavior was very good at 0,99, with good criteria is 1,32, with sufficient criteria is 1,26, and with the criteria need guidance is 2.44. The results of this study indicate that the worse brushing behavior of the respondent's teeth, the worse the level of cleanliness of the teeth and mouth. It is recommended that blind people get guidance and supervision from teachers and supervisors in maintaining the health of their teeth and mouth.
