Abstract

Description of the Level of Knowledge and Attitudes of Husbands Toward the Use of Male Contraceptive Methods in Lewoleba Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) ABSTRACT Low participation of men in the Family Planning (FP) program, especially in the use of male contraceptive methods such as condoms and vasectomy, remains a problem in efforts to control population growth. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes of husbands regarding the use of male contraceptives in Lewoleba Village, Nubatukan District, Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. This study was conducted from March 2 to April 3, 2026, using a quantitative descriptive design. The population in this study consisted of all husbands of couples of reproductive age, totaling 669 people, with a sample of 87 respondents selected using proportional random sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires consisting of 10 knowledge questions and 10 attitude statements, then analyzed using univariate analysis. The research instrument had undergone validity and reliability testing and was declared valid and reliable with a Cronbach’s Alpha value > 0.6 The results showed that most respondents had a low level of knowledge (54.0%), some had sufficient knowledge (31.0%), and only a few had good knowledge (14.9%). However, most respondents had a positive attitude toward the use of male contraceptives (62.1%), while the rest had a negative attitude (37.9%).These findings indicate a gap between knowledge and attitudes, where although knowledge remains low, positive attitudes have begun to develop. Therefore, continuous education and counseling efforts are needed to improve knowledge and encourage active male participation in the Family Planning program. Keywords: knowledge, attitude, husbands, male contraception.
