Abstract
Oral health is a fundamental part of overall health. Dental and oral health problems in Indonesia are quite high problems, one of which is dental caries. The high prevalence of caries can be caused by increased consumption of cariogenic foods and a lack of knowledge about cariogenic foods. The purpose of this study was to describe the level of knowledge about cariogenic and carious foods in permanent first molar teeth in fifth grade students of Dauh Puri Elementary School 2 in 2019. This study was a descriptive study conducted at Dauh Puri Elementary School 2 in May 2019. Respondents in the study this is 36 students of fifth grade at SDN 2 Dauh Puri. Measuring the level of knowledge about cariogenic foods is using the method of giving question sheets, while measuring caries of permanent first molars using the direct examination method. The results of 36 class V students at SDN 2 Dauh Puri showed that the highest number of students had sufficient level of knowledge about cariogenic food, the average level of knowledge of students about cariogenic food was 66.3, students who had caries in permanent first molars by 75%, permanent first molars experiencing caries were 27.7%. The average caries of permanent first molars in students is 1.11. The highest average caries of permanent first molars is 2.00 and is owned by students with a level of knowledge of the category of failing cariogenic foods. The conclusion of this study is all of fifth grade student have tooth decay about 75% and which was the level of knowledge they had.
