Abstract
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX (BMI) AND TRIGLYCERIDE LEVELS WITH HbA1c LEVELS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS AT TAKSU CLINICAL LABORATORY ABSTRACT Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia and associated with various complications. HbA1c is an important indicator for long-term glycemic control. Factors influencing HbA1c levels include body mass index (BMI) and triglyceride levels. High BMI is associated with insulin resistance, while elevated triglycerides reflect lipid metabolism disorders that may worsen glycemic control.Objective: To determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and triglyceride levels with HbA1c levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Taksu Clinical Laboratory. Methods: This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational cross-sectional design. The samples were type 2 diabetes mellitus patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data collected included BMI, triglyceride levels, and HbA1c levels. Data were analyzed using correlation tests. Results: The average BMI of respondents was in the overweight category, HbA1c levels indicated suboptimal glycemic control, and some respondents had high triglyceride levels. There was a significant relationship between BMI and HbA1c (p = 0.026; r = 0.339) and between triglyceride levels and HbA1c (p = 0.017; r = 0.361), with low strength and positive correlation. Conclusion: There is a relationship between body mass index and triglyceride levels with HbA1c levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. Increased BMI and triglyceride levels tend to be followed by increased HbA1c levels. Kadar HbA1c digunakan sebagai indikator kontrol glikemik jangka panjang. Faktor yang memengaruhi kadar HbA1c antara lain indeks massa tubuh (IMT) dan kadar trigliserida. IMT yang tinggi berkaitan dengan resistensi insulin, sedangkan trigliserida tinggi mencerminkan gangguan metabolisme lipid yang dapat memperburuk kontrol glikemik.Tujuan: Mengetahui hubungan indeks massa tubuh (IMT) dan kadar trigliserida dengan kadar HbA1c pada pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Taksu Laboratorium Klinik. Metode: Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain observasional analitik pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian adalah pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2 yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Data meliputi IMT, kadar trigliserida, dan kadar HbA1c. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan uji korelasi. Hasil: Rata-rata IMT responden berada pada kategori overweight, kadar HbA1c menunjukkan kontrol glikemik yang belum optimal, dan sebagian responden memiliki kadar trigliserida tinggi. Terdapat hubungan signifikan antara IMT dengan HbA1c (p = 0,026; r = 0,339) serta antara kadar trigliserida dengan HbA1c (p = 0,017; r = 0,361) dengan kekuatan hubungan rendah dan arah positif. Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara indeks massa tubuh dan kadar trigliserida dengan kadar HbA1c pada pasien diabetes melitus tipe 2. Peningkatan IMT dan trigliserida cenderung diikuti peningkatan kadar HbA1c. Kata kunci: IMT, trigliserida, HbA1c, diabetes melitus tipe 2
