Abstract

Mental disorders are syndromes or clinically important psychological or behavioral patterns that happens to everyone and is associated with distress or disability. A common problem experienced patients with mental disorders is a lack of self-care, especially care for oral hygiene. Based on the results of research conducted on patients with mental disorders in the Jimma University Specialized Hospital (JUSH), it was found that the level of dental and oral health of patients with mental disorders was in bad condition. This research is aimed at describing the level of dental and oral hygiene and dental caries for patients with mental disorders in RSJ Provincial Bali in 2019. The research conducted was descriptive research with survey design. The results of research conducted on 40 people with mental disorders, most of the patients were 57.5% who had oral and dental hygiene (OHI-S) with poor criteria with an average of 3.23. Dental caries in patients with mental disorders were 285 teeth with an average of 7.12 and classified as very high. Most patients with mental disorders, namely 57.5% have OHI-S with poor criteria and have dental caries as many as 191 teeth. The level of oral hygiene and dental caries of patients with mental disorders showed that the level of oral hygiene was bad condition and an average the dental caries is classified as very high.
