Abstract
Dental caries is a major problem in dental and oral health, especially in children of primary school age. Behavior of self-preservation of the community in maintaining oral health indicators is variable brushing teeth. while brushing teeth is the primary primary precaution recommended. This study aims to obtain a description of dental caries and tooth brushing behavior in fifth grade students in Sempidi Elementary School 3 in 2019. This study used a descriptive type of research by survey. The population in this study were all fifth grade students of SD Negeri 3 Sempidi which numbered 46 people. The results of the research on 46 fifth grade students of SD Sempidi Elementary School 3 obtained an average dental caries of 1.21 and the percentage of students affected by caries was 56.52%. Research on tooth brushing behavior showed that 16 students (34.7%) brushed teeth needed guidance, 15 students (32.6%) had very good brushing behavior, 10 students (21.7%) had good tooth brushing behavior and 5 students (10.8%) behave adequately. The average tooth brushing behavior is 65.54 in the sufficient category. Based on the results of research and data analysis, it can be drawn the conclusion that most of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 3 Sempidi suffer from dental caries and most behaves need guidance in brushing teeth, but there are also students who behave correctly in brushing teeth with dental caries
