Abstract

DESCRIPTION OF TOTAL CHOLESTEROL LEVELS AMONG STUDENTS CONSUMING FAST FOOD AT THE POLTEKKES KEMENKES DENPASAR DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY ABSTRACT Background : Fast food can be a factor in increasing cholesterol levels which is one of the most important factors for the occurrence of heart disease. Purpose : This study was to describe total cholesterol levels in students who consumed fast food at the Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar, Department of Medical Laboratory Technology. Methods : This was descriptive research, consisting of 41 respondents using simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out by filling out questionnaires, measuring body weight, height and total cholesterol levels. Results : Showed that from 41 respondents, 71% of respondents were female, 61% of respondents often consumed fast food, 65% of respondents had a Body Mass Index (BMI) in the normal category. Total cholesterol levels show 80% of respondents in the normal category, 10% of respondents in the upper threshold category and 10% of respondents in the high category. Total cholesterol levels in the high category are mostly female 7% of respondents, with the frequency of fast food consumption in the frequent category 7% of respondents, and Body Mass Index (BMI) in the normal category 5% of respondents and the overweight category 5% of respondents. Conclusion : Most students have total cholesterol levels in the normal category and students are advised to reduce consumption of fast food. Keywords : Total cholesterol, fast food, gender, Body Mass Index (BMI) GAMBARAN KADAR KOLESTEROL TOTAL PADA MAHASISWA YANG MENGONSUMSI FAST FOOD DI POLTEKKES KEMENKES DENPASAR JURUSAN TEKNOLOGI LABORATORIUM MEDIS ABSTRAK Latar Belakang : Fast food dapat menjadi faktor terjadinya peningkatan kadar kolesterol yang merupakan salah satu faktor paling utama untuk terjadinya penyakit jantung. Tujuan : Untuk mengetahui gambaran kadar kolesterol total pada mahasiswa yang mengonsumsi fast food di Poltekkes Kemenkes Denpasar Jurusan Teknologi Laboratorium Medis. Metode : Jenis penelitian yaitu penelitian deskriptif, terdiri dari 41 responden dengan teknik sampling simple random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan pengisian kuisoner, pengukuran berat badan, tinggi badan dan kadar kolesterol total. Hasil : Menunjukkan dari 41 responden, 71% responden berjenis kelamin perempuan, 61% responden sering mengonsumsi fast food, 65% responden memiliki Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dalam kategori normal. Kadar kolesterol total menunjukkan 80% responden dalam kategori normal, 10% responden dalam kategori ambang batas atas dan 10% responden dalam kategori tinggi. Kadar kolesterol total dalam kategori tinggi mayoritas pada jenis kelamin perempuan yaitu 7% responden, dengan frekuensi konsumsi fast food dalam kategori sering yaitu 7% responden, dan Indeks Massa Tubuh (IMT) dalam kategori normal yaitu 5% responden dan kategori berat badan lebih yaitu 5% responden. Simpulan : Sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki kadar kolesterol total dalam kategori normal dan mahasiswa dianjurkan untuk mengurangi konsumsi fast food.
