Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND JUNK FOOD CONSUMPTION PATTERNS WITH THE INCIDENCE OF OVERWEIGHT IN STUDENTS AT SMAN 2 DENPASAR ABSTRACT Overweight can be interpreted as a condition where excess fat tissue accumulates under the skin. Overweight that occurs in adolescents can cause health problems in the future. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between physical activity and consumption of junk food with the incidence of overweight among students at SMAN 2 Denpasar. The sample in this study were students of SMAN 2 Denpasar with a total of 92 people. Data were collected using the SQ FFQ interview method to determine consumption patterns of junk food and GPAQ interviews to determine the level of physical activity of students, and measurements of weight and height to determine students' nutritional status. This type of observational research with Cross Sectional design with sampling using purposive sampling technique. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that there were still many samples who had BMI above normal, namely 25.0% were overweight and 75% were not overweight. Where based on the type of junk food, most of them consumed >4 types of junk food, namely as much as 93.5%, based on the frequency of eating junk food, which was mostly often (>2x/week) 94.6% and energy consumption as much as 60.9%, it was classified as ≥10 % requirement, and fat consumption obtained as much as 78.3% classified as ≥10% requirement. Based on the results of physical activity, it was found that 48.9% of the sample was classified as moderate. Based on the results of the analysis test using the Spearman Rank, it showed that there was a significant, strong and not unidirectional relationship between physical activity and the incidence of overweight (p=0.001; r=-0.370). Furthermore, after the same test was carried out, the result was that there was a significant, strong and unidirectional relationship between the amount of energy intake of junk food and the incidence of overweight (p=0.001; r=0.342). The next variable after the test was found that there was a significant and quite strong and unidirectional relationship between the amount of fat intake of junk food and the incidence of overweight (p=0.031; r=0.225). The next variable, after the test was carried out, showed that there was a significant, strong and unidirectional relationship between the frequency of eating junk food and the incidence of overweight (p = 0.001; r = 0.335). Keywords : overweight; physical activity; junk food; consumption patterns
