Abstract
RELATIONSHIP OF GLYCEMIC INDEX AND WAIST CIRCUMFERENCE WITH BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS IN TYPES 2 DIABETES MELLITUS AT PUSKESMAS I DENPASAR SELATAN ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is one of chronic disease characterized by high levels of blood sugar in a person’s blood because the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin, or the body is unable to use insulin effectively or insulin resistance. One of the factors that affect blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus is the glycemic index and waist circumference. The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship of glycemic index and waist circumference with blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Puskesmas I Denpasar Selatan. The type of research conducted is observational analitic with a cross-sectional design. The sample size in the study was 42 people. Collection of glycemic index data using SQ-FFQ form, waist circumference data by taking direct measurements using medline, fasting blood sugar level data by conducting medical record data interviews. The data is processed with statistical analysis of spearman rank analysis. Bivariate test results showed a significant relation between glycemic index and blood sugar levels with p values of 0.001 (p < 0.05). The strength of the relationship is indicated by the value of r or correlation coefficient of 0.635 which means the glycemic index with fasting blood sugar levels has a strong correlation. Significant contact was also shown between waist circumference and blood sugar levels with a p value of p 0.020 (p < 0.05). The strength of the relationship is indicated by the value of r or correlation coefficient of 0.359 which means the glycemic index with fasting blood sugar levels has a fairly strong correlation.
