Abstract
OVERVIEW OF THE PREVALENCE OF SUBSTANTIALLY INFECTED HELMETIC INFECTION IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN AT BARUNA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BATUBULAN VILLAGE GIANYAR REGENCY ABSTRACT Bacground: Soil transmitted helminthiasis (STH) is a significant endemic parasitic health problem in Indonesia caused by the eggs of intestinal nematodes. Worm infections are more common among preschool-aged and school-aged children. Purpose: To determine and describe the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections among elementary school students at Baruna Elementary School in Batubulan Village, Gianyar Regency. Method: This study is descriptive in nature and employs a probability sampling method, specifically cluster random sampling. A total of 45 feces samples were collected the study subjects were students in grades III, IV and V. The examination method used was the direct slide method. Result: This study found that one sample (2%) tested positive for Ascaris lumbricoides roundworm eggs. The infection was found in a 9-year-old female student (2%) with poor personal hygiene. The majority of students had good personal hygiene. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that one sample (2%) tested positive for the presence of Ascaris lumbricoides STH worm eggs in the students feces samples. Recommends: It is hoped that this study will lead to educational outreach and monitoring activities related to parasitic worm infections and their prevention, as well as encourage students to make a habit of washing their hands after engaging in various activities.
